We live in a caring community

As we near ever closer to the start of the camp season it's easy to see how much Cedar Rapids and the surrounding community care for kids and programs like Camp Tanager. This week we have been fortunate enough to receive the help from 3 large organizations in the area - Van Meter Industrial, ImOn Communications, and General Mills.

Preparing for summer camp takes a lot of effort. It takes months of preparation in all aspects - from grounds and cleaning, to programming activities, to adding new and exciting features and events for the campers attending. The support provided by the above listed organizations is much needed and deeply appreciated by everyone at Camp Tanager and Tanager Place.

This spring we are in the process of completing the following projects:

Van Meter Industrial - http://www.vanmeterindustrial.com/
Attended Camp Tanager through the United Way Day of Caring (http://www.liveunited.org/). Van Meter assisted with the much needed fall/winter clean up - the mountains of leaves, the fallen twigs and branches, the ladybugs that seem to gather everywhere! Van Meter worked hard beautifying the grounds with new rock, mulch, weeding, and spreading.

ImOn Communications - http://www.imon.net/
ImOn will be assisting camp this year by installing new phone lines in each of the sleeping cabins. ImOn have generously donated both labor and materials to projects like this for non-profit organizations. This system will tie directly into our main phone system and add another layer of communication between the cabins, office, and camp leadership team members.

General Mills - http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/index.aspx
General Mills have been a long time supporter of Camp Tanager and Tanager Place. Their annual clean up day gives camp the manpower, and skilled professionals to be able to carry out a range of clean up and new construction projects. In addition to general facility clean up, staff from General Mill's will be constructing new platform tents and a GAGA ball arena for new games to be played in. Each year General Mills staff show up full of enthusiasm and a genuine desire to help out as much as possible.

Thanks to our supporters, and to all supporters of non-profit agencies such as ours in the Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa area. Your continued support goes a long way in helping us reach our goal of helping as many children as possible enjoy a free summer camp experience.

Happy Camping :)
